Mohammad Iqbal Aubdool : “Instructing people how to drive safely is my ultimate aim”
Fostering a culture of defensive, safety, vigilance and prudence driving among students is Iqbal’s priority. In fact, before starting to offer driving lessons, Iqbal makes it a must to run a theory induction course lasting 30 minutes to 1 hour where he highlights the importance of defensive driving and the potential hazards present on our roads. The burning heat of the sun at Champ de Mars and the hot climate of Port Louis do not hinder Iqbal as he loves his job and is devoted to it.
Character and working hours
Iqbal highlights that the main character for performing the job of driving instructor is patience as he has to deal with people with different characters. Therefore with each and every person he works with, our driving instructor must make use of different learning strategies. “I recall having even given driving courses to deaf and dumb people. “Though I don’t have any knowledge of sign languages, I have managed to give them courses. When they passed the driving test, I felt an immense joy, honour and pride,” he highlights.
Concerning working hours, Iqbal does not fixed working hours from Monday to Saturday as all depends on the number of students who will have to undergo their driving tests. He has a planning for each day. However, he does not work on Sundays and public holidays. Competition in this field is not an issue for Iqbal as he is giving the best he can in his job. “I thank God for my everyday bread,” he says.
The Office
Even for those who have major problems in passing the oral driving exam, Iqbal provides courses at his office which is situated at Deschartes Street, found just behind the Line Barracks.
